how a dish is like a suitcase

Before adding a new dish to the menu, the astute chef scrutinizes it as a practiced traveller would his or her packed suitcase:

1. Search the contents and identify the least necessary item.
2. Remove that item.

This case for simplicity can be applied to many of life’s pursuits. We can all benefit from shedding excess baggage and negotiating the zigzagging channels of creative expression with a lighter load.
