In Beautiful Pastrami Spotted on London Pavement I wrote of having to photograph The Deli West One pastrami on the sidewalk after someone in charge at the new kosher deli stopped me from taking additional photos of its meats. He suggested I download and use photos posted on the deli’s website.
Two photos may offer visual clues as to, (A), why I might have been prevented from taking pics at The Deli West One and, (B), why I might have thought it a bad idea to use the deli’s own images.
The top photo of the Deli West One sandwich is from the deli’s Facebook page. The bottom photo is of the Deli West One salt beef sandwich, only it was taken by me.
I draw one of two conclusions from these two images: Either, (A), I need a new camera or, (B), the sandwich the deli made for its foodtographer was thicker and more beautiful than the one it made for me.
Which one do you think it is?
I love it when people look at my photos and tell me I must have a great camera. I also tell them my wife is a good cook as she has some excellent wooden spoons.
Your photo is fine, the sandwich isn’t. We all know that some food stylists take liberties with their with their artwork, but this isn’t even close.
I’ve got a hankering for a salt beef sandwich now, I’ll have to look at where I can get one today. 🙂
You can’t trust food photos! Oh dear that is so disappointing 🙁
Unless they have something to hide I can’t imagine why they’d forbid pictures? I thought DSO was pretty mediocre!
Josh – I suspect you’re right and that saddens me. When people have the means and desire to do something lacking in London you hate it when they fall short, as it discourages others from trying the same.
